19th Century French Louis Philippe Burl Walnut Secretary with Black Marble Top
This elegant, antique fruitwood “secretaire à abattant” found in Avignon, France, features a beautiful burl walnut decor on the front. Crafted circa 1860, the tall secretary has a black marble top, classical, straight lines, and four large drawers across the front (one at the top, three at the bottom). There’s a center door that pulls down to reveal a fully outfitted theater comprised of five drawers and a large open niche created for books and letters. The surface is covered with a black leather, embellished by luxurious gold tooling. The desk is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patinated finish.
