Pair of 19th Century English Marble Elephants Sculptures on Rectangular Bases
Make a statement in your entry with this pair of antique, marble elephant sculptures. Made in England circa 1860, the hand carved animals stand on a rectangular base that’s embellished around the edges with inlaid mother of pearl decor. Each elephant is nicely detailed, and is shown with a hand carved blanket on the back and a large heart over the forehead. Elephants with their trunks upturned are a symbol of good luck throughout southeastern Asia. The sculptures are in good condition commensurate with age and use, and have a rich patinated finish. The tusk tips are missing and there’s one small chip on one ear. (See last picture)
