Created in England circa 1720, and made of walnut and burl, this elegant antique secretary is built in two sections; the upper section boasting a desirable bonnet Top is decorated with three carved finials. The beveled mirrored doors Open to reveal two inside adjustable shelves, eight small drawers and four niche compartments. The bottom section with three large bottom drawers is skillfully constructed with a choice of two dozen compartments in which to hide one’s important documents and valuables, including seven secret drawers also concealed inside of the desk interior in front of the gilt embossed green leather surface. The expert craftsmanship of such a complicated item required the skill and attention of the finest cabinetmakers, to which its high level of quality can attest. The inclusion of original brass locks with keys and double pulls on the three long drawers under the writing surface adds to this secretary’s desirability.
