18th Century French Carved Walnut Oratoire Prayer Kneeler Cabinet from Burgundy

This elegant antique fruit wood “Prie-Dieu” prayer kneeler was crafted in the wine region of Burgundy, France, circa 1780. The prayer chair with arched top over a stepped cornice, is dressed with a back panel decorated with a blessed crucifix. The cabinet features a slant front Bible stand with raised stop; lifting the top, it reveals inside storage usually used for bibles, rosaries, missals or other biblical items. The “Oratoire” has a large raised and scalloped paneled door, opening to inside shelving, and a kneeling platform at the base. The Louis XIV religious cabinet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Original lock and key included. Measures: 22″ W x 21″D x 66.75″ H.
