18th Century French Louis XV Carved Walnut Bombe Chest of Drawers from Lyon
Decorate an entry or a bedroom with this large, antique serpentine commode Lyonnaise; carved in France, circa 1760, the elegant, fruit wood cabinet stands on scrolled feet over a scalloped apron with a decorative shell motif; it features three drawers across the top, including a secret drawer, and two large drawers underneath. Every drawer is decorated with a center medallion with hand carved shell, foliage and floral motifs over the raised panels; each drawer is embellished with the original bronze handles and matching escutcheons. The top has the original coin slot where money was dropped into the secret center drawer, and both sides have raised panels. The important traditional chest is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina. Place this commode in a living room, dining room or along an empty wall for extra storage and surface space.
