18th Century Italian Carved and Painted Grotto Settee with Silk Cushion & Pillow
The heavily carved antique bench was crafted in Northern Italy, circa 1780. Standing on six tree-form legs, the bench features rich carving throughout, including cherub head figures resting on the curved and scalloped back embellished with acorn and foliage decor; the back is further decorated with foliate vertical spindles. Both armrests are decorated with carved cheerful putti figures holding branches, and the seat is upholstered with a red and beige silk checker cushion with matching pillow. The sturdy Venetian settee is in very good condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns the original rubbed and patinated gilt painted finish; place this bench in an entryway, a hallway or at a foot of a bed. Measures: 42″ W x 22″ D x 31.5″ H.
