18th Century Italian Carved Paper Polychrome Mâché Christ Bust on Wooden Stand
Crafted in Naples, Italy circa 1760, the carved wood and paper mâché sculpture depicts our Lord Jesus Christ on a rectangular base. The large bust shows Jesus during the crucifixion dressed with his robe, the crown of thorns on his heads and drops of blood running down on his face and torso. The expression of his face shows his sufferings before his death. The Neapolitan religious piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a beautiful polychromed beige, red and brown patinated finish. Measures: 19″ W x 9″ D x 23″ H.
