This beautiful antique Christ statue was hand carved in Spain, circa 1790. On a wooden base resembling rock with carved motifs, the sculpture depicts our Lord Jesus Christ standing with open arms and pierced hands, showing his Sacred Heart. The religious statue is in excellent condition with a rich patinated polychrome and gilt finish; wonderful facial and hand details. The devotion to the Sacred Heart (also known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacratissimi Cordis Iesu in Latin) is one of the most widely practiced and well-known Roman Catholic devotions, taking Jesus Christ’s physical heart as the representation of His divine love for humanity.
