19th-Century Belgian Patinated Bronze Jewelry Box with Medieval Court Decor
This antique Renaissance casket was created in Belgium, circa 1880. Rectangular in shape, the gilt bronze box is embellished with French court motifs, including a courting scene on the top. The sides depicts scenes like a duke riding his horse, a king being entreated by his subjects, a magician casting a spell, and a court jester flirting with a maiden. The detail work is outstanding with base relief decor on all five sides. The inside box reveals the original luxurious red velvet upholstery. The jewelry box is in excellent condition with a rich patinated bronze finish throughout, and would make a beautiful, useful addition to a desk or vanity table, and is stamped “Made in Belgium” on the bottom. Measures: 7.25″ W x 6.25″ D x 3.25″ H.
