Crafted in Paris, circa 1870, the fruitwood commode shaped as a demilune (or half moon), stands on tapered and fluted legs decorated at the base and shoulders with brass caps. The cabinet features three bombe drawers across the front and two curved doors and smaller drawers on both sides. Each drawer and door are decorated with elegant inlaid and marquetry floral motifs and embellished with elegant hardware and escutcheons; the piece is further decorated with bronze mounts on the corners and over the scalloped apron. The top is dressed with the original conforming variegated beige marble. The chest is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina.
