19th Century French Cloisonné Plaque with Holy Water Font and Angel Medallion
This religious marble and brass wall plaque with holy water recipient was created in France, circa 1880. Oval in shape, the antique piece features beautiful, intricate cloisonné work with enamel, stone and bronze; it is embellished with a hand painted angel medallion and cross attached to a gleaming variegated green marble. Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metal or marble objects. In this technique, enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire that are placed on a metal backing. The religious object is in excellent condition and has sturdy brass backing. Hook on the back for easy installation. Measures: 5″ W x 8″ H.
