19th Century French Concrete St. Francis Bird Bath Statue
Decorate an outdoor garden with this antique bird bath statue featuring Saint Francis, the saint patron of animals. Crafted in France circa 1880, the carved statue depicts the Saint dressed in cassock, holding a bowl to feed the birds. The garden element is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns the original weathered and patinated finish. Weight 48 pounds. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), was born in Italy. After a wild youth and a brief career as a soldier, Francis had a conversion experience that inspired him to renounce his family’s wealth and devote his life to God. St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the environment and animals, built bonds of love with all of the kinds of creatures in the animal kingdom; however, Saint Francis had a special relationship with birds, who often followed him around and rested on his shoulders, arms, or hands as he prayed or walked around outside.
