About
This elegant, antique fruitwood “Secretaire a Abattant” was crafted in France, circa 1850. The tall secretary with classical straight lines stands on bracket feet and features round columns on both sides, dressed with a discrete top invisible drawer at the top. The surface is dressed with the original variegated grey marble top. The bottom has double doors with inside shelving for additional storage. The fall front opens and reveals a fully outfitted inside theater decorated with turned columns on the sides, six functioning drawers (a large top drawer across the front and 5 smaller drawers at the bottom), and a wide open niche for books and letters in the middle. The writing surface is upholstered with a green leather top with embossed tooling around the edges. The lady’s desk is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorns a rich walnut patina; it would make a useful addition to a small library or study. Two original keys included. Measures: 38.5″ W x 18.5″ D x 56″ H.
