Decorate a bedroom or dressing room with this antique fruitwood Semainier chest of drawers. Crafted in France circa 1880, the tall and narrow chest stands on rounded front cup feet over a straight plinth base; the cabinet features a projecting frieze drawer decorated with a middle bronze mount, over six additional drawers dressed with bronze pulls and matching escutcheons, and flanked by turned columns on each side embellished with decorative bronze mounts at the top and bottom. The surface is dressed with the original black marble top. The Classic Empire style commode is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Coming from the French word “Semaine”, (“week” in English) a typical Semainier has seven drawers for storing a week supply of lingerie, shirts. Measures: 31″ W x 16.5″ D x 53.5″ H.
