19th Century French Hand Painted Ceramic Barbotine Frog Pitcher by Fives Lille

Colorful antique water pitcher from Northern France, crafted, circa 1890, the pitcher, called “La Grenouille a La Pipe”, features a frog dressed as a waiter and holding a pipe. Wonderful facial expressions! The jar is in excellent condition with rich colors in the pale green, brown and pale blue palette. Stamped on the bottom with number 1306. Featured in the book “Pichets en Barbotine” by Maryse Bottero page 68. La faiencerie de Lille was a ceramic manufacture founded by Gustave De Bruyn (1838-1916) In 1864. From 1887, barbotine ceramics were made there until the factory closed in 1964. Measure: 4.5” W x 7.5” D x 10.25” H.
