19th Century French Louis XV Carved Painted Chestnut Jelly Cabinet from Brittany
This elegantly carved confiturier (or jelly cabinet), was crafted in western France circa 1870. The antique cabinet is carved from chestnut wood, and is embellished with scroll legs, acanthus leaf motifs, and a scalloped apron decorated with traditional shell and foliage motifs. The heavily carved centre door has a raised panel that features Breton people and additional floral decor in high relief. The door opens to reveal two inside adjustable shelves for additional storage. The cabinet is in excellent condition and has a light, patinated white wash finish. This versatile, compact cabinet would make a useful, rustic addition to any living room, bedroom or dining room. Key included.
