19th Century French Louis XV Rococo Carved Giltwood Mirror with Pierced Motifs

Dress a mantel with this elegant antique gilt mirror. Crafted in Provence, Southern France, circa 1850, and arched at the top, the ornate frame features a pierced floral decor cartouche at the pediment flanked with leaves and foliage motifs and cherub figures on both sides; it further embellished with acanthus leaf decor and pierced geometric motifs all around. The Provencal Rococo mirror is dressed with the original oval mercury glass and wood backing. The Louis XV style wall mirror it is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a beautiful and rich gold leaf finish. New wire in the back for easy installation. Versatile, the mirror could be placed in a powder room, over a console in an entry or in a living room over a buffet. For information, the mirror was the property of Jean Moulin family, a hero and the face of the French Resistance during World War II (see last picture!) Measures: 34.5″ W x 52″ H.
