Store your TV remote controls or other valuables in this antique “Trompe l’œil” box. Created in France circa 1880 and built of mahogany wood, the Bible book storage box, now fashioned as a table box is decorated with marquetry band, and embellished with a brass crest in the center; it is further dressed with a lock, and the back side features a carved Jerusalem cross symbol. The colorful box is in excellent condition with a rich patinated leather. Decorate a coffee table or a library shelf with this decorative box. The Jerusalem cross (also known as “five-fold Cross”) is a heraldic cross and Christian cross variant consisting of a large cross potent surrounded by four smaller Greek crosses, one in each quadrant. It was used as the emblem and coat of arms of the Kingdom of Jerusalem from the 1280s. Measures: 20″ W x 3.5″ D x 15″ H.
