19th Century French Napoleon III Carved and Blackened Prie Dieu Kneeler
Place this elegant antique prayer bench in your bedroom for daily devotions. Crafted in France, circa 1890, the traditional, fruitwood kneeler stands on front turned legs over a bombe apron. The chair has a wide and deep seat, flanked by carved columns on the sides, and is decorated in the center with a hand carved pierced cross. Both armrest and seat are upholstered with a solid red velvet fabric. The tall walnut religious “Prie-Dieu” (French for Praying God) is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich blackened patinated finish with gilt accents. Measures: 22″ W x 18.5″ D x 38″ H.
