19th Century French Napoleon III Marquetry and Bronze Lady’s Secretary Chest
Place this elegant, antique bombe secretary in an office or a bedroom. Crafted in Paris circa 1870, the versatile fruit wood piece is a lady’s desk and chest of drawers at once. The petite cabinet has classical lines with curved sides with marquetry decor and a bowed front decorated with bronze mounts, and embellished with a grey marble top. It features many useful compartments, including four drawers under the folding top; the center door pulls down to reveal a fully outfitted theatre and a decorative scalloped edge. The inside has three drawers with marquetry inlay, and a wide open niche for books and letters storage. The surface is covered with the original green felt top embellished with gilt tooling. The Napoleon III lady’s desk is in excellent condition and has a rich, walnut patinated finish and embellished with patinated bronze mounts on the facade. This beautiful, stand-out piece would make a useful addition to a small library or study, because it can be folded up quickly to create more space. Key included. Measures: 25.5″ W x 13″ D x 49″ H.
