19th Century French Painted Barbotine Rooster and Hen Vase Signed Dephin Massier
Place this small colorful antique chicken composition figure on a shelf or in a display cabinet. Crafted in France, circa 1880, the hand painted piece features a rooster and hen sculpture with a bowl or vide-poche on the side. The piece is signed on the bottom “Delphin Massier Vallauris” (1836-1916). This hand painted chicken family sculpture with vase is in excellent condition, and has a sharp color palette of yellow, red, green and blue. Pictured in the book “Les Barbotines” by Massin page 86. The Massier family was a dynasty of ceramicists dating back to before the French Revolution. They played a key role in the revival of pottery in Vallauris. Massier – one of the three companies, led by the brothers Delphin (born in 1836), Clement (born in 1844) and cousin Jerome (born in 1850), soon formed the core of the producers of Vallauris.
