19th Century French Repousse Brass and Leather Fireplace Bellows

Decorate a fireplace and active the flames with this elegant and useful antique bellows. Crafted in Brittany, France, circa 1880, the fireplace essential features a repousse brass top surface depicting a pastoral tavern scene in the manner of Teniers. Double handles at one end, a brass blower cone at the other extremity, and the original accordion black leather strapping devise in between embellished with decorative brass nailheads. The bellows is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated finish. (A bellows is a device constructed to furnish a strong blast of air forcing a stream when the cavity is compressed. It had many applications for blacksmiths shops, in particular blowing on a fire to supply it with air, and made it easier to bend the metal) Measures: 22.5″ W x 9.25″ D x 5″ H.
