19th Century French Sheep Painting in Original Gilt Frame Signed E. Pail
Set in the original carved gilt wood frame, this antique oil on canvas was crafted in France, circa 1870. The painting, “Shepherd with his flock”, depicts a bucolic scene of sheep grazing in a picturesque pasture. The painting is signed on the lower right corner by the artist, E. Pail. The art work and the frame are in excellent condition with beautiful pastel colors and splendid gold leaf finish. Edouard Pail (1851-1916) was a French painter who began his career at the 1870 Paris salon, where he won a third place finish in 1883. He was a student of Lavoignat and he was famous for his landscapes and countryside paintings often depicted with sheep. Listed in the Benezit. Measures: 28.5″ W x 25″ H.
