19th Century French Silver and Gilt Painted Wrought Iron Book Binding Press
This beautiful paper binding press was forged in France, circa 1860. The Classic “Presse a Relier” made of solid iron is almost square in shape and features scrolled decor on the façade, the top is connected to the manual screw controlled by a wide top handle. This heavy tool is in wonderful working order and adorns a rich patinated silver and gilt patinated painted finish. Decorate a shelf with this wonderful accessory in a study or library! In the old days, this kind of device was used to press together the book’s sheets together before receiving a bookbinding. Old repair line (see last picture). Measures: 15″ W x 13″ D x 13″ H.
