Decorate a man’s office or study with this large antique pheasant composition. Created in France circa 1890 and built of spelter, the large sculpture depicts a group of pheasants and chicks standing on a rocky form base. The composition shows a female and proud male pheasants with long tails watching over two of their babies grazing, while perched on a stack of rocks. The artwork is signed on the base by French artist, L. Carvin. The large sculpture is in excellent condition and adorns a rich patinated bronze finish. A beautiful sculpture for the ultimate bird hunter; it could also be placed in a ranch house or hunting lodge for the wonderful outdoor feel! Louis Albert Carvin (1860-1933) was a French animalier sculptor; born in Paris, Carvin was a student of Emmanuel Fremiet et George Gardet. Born on August 7, 1875 in Paris, France, Carvin went on to study under Emmanuel Frémiet and Georges Gardet at the École des Beaux-Arts and later became a member of the Sociéte des Artistes Français. While a member of the Society of French Artists, he exhibited at the Salons from the end of the nineteenth century to 1933. He obtained an honorable mention in 1894. Specialized in animal sculpture, he took as his model deer, hinds, lions, lionesses, panthers, birds, wolf dogs, sometimes horses, such as the group L’Accolade representing a pair of thoroughbreds.
