Decorate an office with this spectacular antique globe. Crafted in France, circa 1890, the elegant piece sits on a green painted cast iron tripod base decorated with paw feet and masks figures. The stem holds the 12″ swivel globe which is signed J. Lebegue & Cie. Displaying the world as it was around the turn of the 20th century, this globe was created by the Belgian cartographer Jules Lebegue, who took over his family’s business in 1885. This globe is marked J. Lebegue , Editeurs, 25, Rue de Lille, 25, Paris France, which was the second location of their company outside of Belgium. Numerous names and regions of note are outlined on the globe, in particular the Transvaal region in South Africa as well as the extent of the French Empire in West Africa. A beautiful piece of world history that is sure to inspire any traveler. The terrestrial globe is in very good condition commensurate with age and use with wonderful patinated colors. Measures: 12″ diameter 23″ height.
