19th Century French Wrought Iron and Bronze Paper Binding Press
This beautiful paper binding press was forged in France, circa 1860. The Classic “Presse a Relier” made of solid iron is almost square in shape and features engraved gilt decorative geometric motifs on the facade; the top is connected to the manual screw controlled by a wide top handle and round bronze knobs at the end. This heavy tool is in wonderful working order and adorns the original patinated black and rust finish embellished with gilt accents. Decorate a shelf with this wonderful accessory in a study or library! In the old days, this kind of device was used to press together the book’s sheets together before receiving a bookbinding.
