19th Century French Yellow Glazed Terracotta Olive Oil Urn from Provence
$1,800
About
This large antique earthenware olive oil urn was created in Southern France, circa 1880. Made of blond clay and neutral in color, the terracotta vase has a traditional round shape decorated with side handles. The rustic, time-worn pot features a yellow glaze around the neck and trim, and a natural beige tone throughout the body. Overall, this elegant ceramic jar is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich, aged patinated finish. In the south of France and especially in Biot (small village on the French Riviera), these olive pots are also known as the “king of jars,” and were used to transport olive oil in the 17th and 18th century. Measures: 13″ diameter 26″ height.
