19th Century Oil on Canvas Dog Painting in Gilt Frame Signed H. Schouten
Decorate a study or a den with this antique painting. Set in the original Louis XV style carved giltwood frame, this large painting was created in Belgium circa 1890; the subject composition depicts three hunting dogs in the field looking for their prey in a bush. The art work is signed on the bottom left corner by the artist, H. Schouten. The painting is in excellent condition with wonderful details and rich colors. A wonderful addition to a ranch or hunting lodge! Henry Schouten (1864-1927), was a Belgian artist best known for painting farmyard scenes of animals in their environment. Schouten was also known to paint dog, cows, peasants, hunters, and herdsmen as well; he went on to study art at the Academy of Brussels from 1876–1881. His works were strongly influenced by Alfred Jacques Verwee, a renowned fellow animal painter. Listed in the Benezit (see last picture). Measures: 45.5″ W x 35″ H.
