This elegant, antique Vargueno was carved in Spain circa 1820. The BargueM1o or Vargueno desk prototype originated in Renaissance Spain, and first appeared in the 15th century. This type of compartment was used to carry valuables such as jewelry and documents. This particular 19th century Spanish BargueM1o is beautifully ornate with a pair of iron handles on each side, six drawers with tortoiseshell inlay and a center door with four additional drawers inside. The cabinet sits on a base table with wrought iron stretchers for support. This interesting conversational piece would complement any room from the living room to the study.
