Early 20th Century French Louis XIII Carved Mutton Bone Stool with Stripe Velvet
This elegant, antique ottoman was crafted in Southern France, circa 1920. The large foot stool features four carved “os de mouton” legs (or mutton bone), and is upholstered with its original green and gold stripe velvet. The fruitwood piece is in excellent condition and has a rich walnut patina on its wooden frame. (Os de mouton: Refers to the sinuous stretchers that are the quintessential aspect of Louis XIII furniture. The shape of the chair legs is literally based on the legs of a lamb. Literally, “mutton bone.”) Measures: 22.5″ W x 18″ D x 13″ H.
