Decorate a den or living room with this antique trunk as a coffee table. Crafted in France by Louis Vuitton circa 1920, the decorative Vuitton hat trunk “Mlle Chapeaux”, is almost square in shape ( the square trunks were only produced for a short period of time). The trunk with side leather handles and brass lock, features wood straps on top with leather trim to the edges and hand stenciled LV logo fabric throughout; it is further decorated with the monogram “B.M.” on each side. The interior is all original with two removable trays and the inside label reads “Asnieres sur Seine, Louis Vuitton, Paris, 70 Champs Elysees, Nice, 4 jardin Albert !er, Lille, 34 rue Faidherbe and London, 149 New Bond Street”. Serial #752114 inside and #057646 on the lock. Louis Vuitton records indicate this trunk might be the one originally sold on May 23, 1926. The small trunk is in excellent condition with a rich patinated finish; a wonderful piece to use as a cocktail table or side table! Louis Vuitton Malletier, commonly known as Louis Vuitton, is a French luxury fashion house and company founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton. The label’s LV monogram appears on most of its products, ranging from luxury bags and leather goods to ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewelry, accessories, sunglasses and books. Monsieur Vuitton had observed that a competitor’s trunk could be easily stacked and in 1858, Vuitton introduced his flat-topped trunks with Trianon canvas covering, making them lightweight and airtight. Before this time, rounded-top trunks were generally used, to help water run off, and thus could not be stacked. Vuitton promoted his flat trunks ability to stack with ease for overseas voyages and thus created a successful luxury travel goods business.Louis Vuitton is one of the world’s leading international fashion houses. For six consecutive years (2006–2012), Louis Vuitton was named the world’s most valuable luxury brand. The company operates in 50 countries with more than 460 stores worldwide.
