Important 18th Century French Gothic Wrought Iron Fireplace Screen with Landiers
Decorate a fireplace hearth with this impressive, ornate iron screen. Forged in France circa 1760, the important, freestanding, decorative wrought iron piece features heavy iron scroll work with floral and leaf decor. The antique screen is further embellished by two “landiers” at each end. Originally, these cup holder elements were used to hold bowls of soup and keep them warm next to the heat of the fire. The fireplace element is in excellent condition and has an original rusty finish that adds to its rustic character.
