Large 18th Century French Aubusson Verdure Tapestry with Birds and Stream
This colorful handmade tapestry was woven in Aubusson, France, circa 1760. The antique wall hanging piece with the original floral border depicts a traditional “Verdure” scene with birds, trees and leaves. The lush, green composition features a pair of large birds on tall legs standing by a stream (probably bustards or waders from the ostrich family), two tall trees with heavy foliage on the sides with another bird sitting on a branch, and a pond and structure in the background. The large tapestry is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with fresh colors in the beige, blue and green palette, and a canvas backing.
