Late 18th Century French Louis XV Carved Burl Walnut Tall Case Clock from Lyon
This elegant, antique grand father clock was crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1780. The fruitwood tall case clock has beautiful carved lines with a bonnet top, a violin shape body style and finished at the base with scroll feet under a scalloped apron. The clock face features a bronze rooster at the pediment flanked with dove on both sides (the Chanteclair rooster is one of the symbols of France!). The clock mechanism has been cleaned up and checked up with new strings, and is in very good working order with two weights, the original lead pendulum, and the winding key. The impressive clock keeps great time and strikes on the hour and half hour. This stately grandfather clock is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina.
