Late 20th Century Painted Ceramic Pig and Piglet Sculptures Set from Townsend

Crafted circa 1980, the large pig and piglet figure are colorful, expressive, detailed, and realistic in shape and texture. The picturesque farm animals are in excellent condition with rich hand-painted colors in a soft pink and off white palette. Signed on the bottom: The Townsends. Amazingly life-life animal sculptures were the trademark of the now closed, Townsend Ceramic & Glass Inc. Starting in 1964 as Alaska Arts, until the company closed in December 2004, artist Ann Townsend worked in several different art fields. Ann was born in Alaska and learned her craft from her father. The family moved to Florida where she obtained her degree in Fine Art. They operated Townsend ceramics from 1964 to 2004. Ann specialized in animal sculptures and created life like images, the pigs in particular are highly collectible. Measures: 22″ W x 6.5″ D x 15.25″ H. (large pig) 11.5″ W x 6″ D x 8″ H (small).
