Late 20th Century Swiss Automaton Brass Cage with Two Moving Birds
$2,200
About
Bring life to your house with this colorful vintage birdcage. Attributed to Reuge Music in Switzerland, and built circa 1980, the cage is cylindrical in shape with repousse decor, and topped with a rounded dome ending with a ring for easy hanging. Inside the gilded cage, there are two miniature automaton birds. The red and yellow birds are realistic with their life-like colors and feathered texture. One bird sits on the green felt bottom, the other on a branch with leaves. When you activate the on-off switch and wind the key at the bottom, both birds move their heads in harmony, beaks and tails in synchronicity. The piece is in good condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a richly patinated brass finish throughout. Measures: 6.5″ diameter 11″ height.
