Mid-18th Century French Louis XV Carved Burl Walnut Tall Case Clock from Lyon
Crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1760 and built in one section, the antique fruitwood grandfather clock stands on curved feet over a scalloped apron, and features beautiful carved lines including a bonnet top over a violin shape body. The case with carved moldings throughout is decorated with a marquetry star motif on the door. The movement face is decorated with a repousse brass pastoral scene with a farmer on his horse; the mechanism has been cleaned and checked out, and is in wonderful working order keeping great time and striking on the hour and half hour. The elegant and tall grandfather clock is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Weights, pendulum and winding key included.
