Mid-19th Century French Carved Rosewood, Brass and Leather Fireplace Bellows
Decorate a fireplace and active the flames with this elegant and colorful antique bellows. Crafted in France, circa 1870, the Napoleon III fireplace essential features a carved marquetry top surface decorated with floral engraved brass motifs. The fireplace essential is dressed with two handles at one end, an brass blower at the other extremity, and the original accordion brown leather strapping devise in between embellished with decorative brass nail heads. The bellows is in excellent condition and has a rich French polished finish with colorful engravings. (A bellows is a device constructed to furnish a strong blast of air forcing a stream when the cavity is compressed. It had many applications for blacksmiths shops, in particular blowing on a fire to supply it with air, and made it easier to bend the metal) Measures: 17.25″ W x 6″ D.
