About
This elegant antique “Commode Sauteuse” was crafted in Provence, France, circa 1860. The fruitwood chest stands on cabriole legs with sabot feet over a scalloped apron. The chest of drawers with delicate curved sides, features two bombe heavily carved drawers with raised panels across the front. Both pull-out drawers are decorated with floral and foliage decor, while the corners are adorned with acanthus leaves and shell designs. The cabinet is further embellished with its original bronze handles and escutcheons. The surface has its original carved gray marble top, which follows the same curving, organic shape as the drawers and sides. The chest of drawers is in excellent condition and has a rich light walnut patina. Marble-top repaired.
