This beautiful, antique oil on canvas painting was created in France, circa 1850. The painting depicts a typical French “Basse Cour” (or farmyard) with roosters, chicken, chicks and turkeys in front of a countryside barn; it is signed on the bottom left by the artist Claude “Guilleminet”. The composition has a soft, neutral palette with a lovely command of light. It is in excellent condition and is set inside an ornate, gilded frame.
The artist, Claude Guilleminet (1821-1860) was a French genre stage painter who specialized in the paintings of farmyards and farm animals. His career began at the Paris Salon of 1856, and he also participated in the salons of 1864 and 1866 as well. Listed in the Benezit.
