Mid-19th Century French Oil on Board Chicken Painting in Carved Gilt Frame
$1,800
About
Created in Normandy France, circa 1870, and set in the original carved gilt frame, the antique artwork composition painted on board depicts a typical “Basse-Cour” (or farmyard) in the manner of Claude Guilleminet, with chickens and rooster grazing. The neutral tones of the charming painting are emphasized by the frame’s gold leaf finish. Place this wall decor on a wall or use it to decorate a shelf in a study or office. Claude Guilleminet (1821-1860) was a French genre stage painter who specialized in the paintings of farmyards and farm animals. His career began at the Paris Salon of 1856, and he also participated in the salons of 1864 and 1866 as well. Measures: 19.25″ W x 12.5″ H.
