About
Decorate a living room or den with this elegant two-tier antique coffee table. Created in Paris, France, circa 1950 by Maison Jansen, the clean line frame is made of brushed steel and brass; it features round legs ending with tapered feet, and is topped with decorative cone finials in each corner. The cocktail table has a bottom shelf dressed with the original black leather embellished with gilt tooling and decorative bronze medallions, and the surface is topped with the original clear glass. The neoclassical coffee table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated steel and gilt finish. Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Not originally equipped with its own workrooms for producing furniture, the firm began by relying upon antiques and the furniture contracted to outside cabinetmakers. By the early 1890s Maison Jansen had established its own manufacturing capacity producing furniture of contemporary design, as well as reproductions, primarily in the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directoire, and Empire styles. Measures: 36.5″ W x 19″ D x 19.5″ H.
