Pair of 19th Century Country French Walnut and Rush Convertible Prayer Chairs
Created in Normandy, France circa 1880, each versatile chair stands on curved legs joined by turned stretchers over a hand woven rush seat, and features a ladder back with flat top rail. The chair turns to a metamorphic Prie-Dieu (aka pray God prayer chair) by raising the seat with hinges at the back, and revealing a bottom knee cushion upholstered with beige fabric; when in a kneeling position, the top rail becomes an arm rest. Both Provincial prayer chairs are in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina. A true one of a kind! Measures: 19.25″W x 18″D x 32.5″H.
