Pair of 19th Century French Reverse Glass Paintings in Carved Gilt Frames
$1,200
About
Decorate a shelf or a powder room wall with this elegant pair of “Fixe-Sous-Verre” paintings (or reverse glass); crafted in France circa 1840, each artwork is set in a carved gilt frame protected with glass, and depicts an angel on one and a woman in a boat on the other. Both pieces are in excellent condition with wonderful details. Can be sold separately.
A “Fixe sous Verre” painting is an antique technique in which the painting is applied to the back of the glass, so the picture is seen from the other side.
