Pair of 19th Century Louis XV Provencal Carved Walnut Upholstered Armchairs
$2,800
About
Decorate a study or a bedroom with this elegant pair of antique armchairs. Crafted in Provence, southern France circa 1870, these comfortable fauteuils sit on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulder and ending with escargot feet. The armchairs have a tall and arched back decorated at the top with detailed floral motifs in high relief, and a wide, deep seat over a four-side scalloped apron embellished with shell and foliage decor. The chairs, with curved, padded armrests, are upholstered with a beautiful tapestry-like fabric with some fading, detailed with winding vines surrounding a basket full of a unique floral arrangement in the center of both the back and the seat. The bergeres are further dressed with decorative brass nail heads. The large provincial armchairs are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorn a rich walnut patina throughout. Measures: 27″W x 22.5″D x 40″H.
