Pair of Early 20th Century French Carved Oak, Rush Seat Fireplace Low Armchairs
$1,600
About
These very comfortable antique ladder back chairs with armrests were crafted in Normandy, France circa 1920. Built in oak and beechwood and attributed to Charles Dudouyt, each armchair sits on round turned legs and features two ladders in the back embellished with round finials at the top. The wide and deep seat is upholstered with the original hand woven rush. The country armchairs are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich walnut patina. The versatile and sturdy low “chauffeuses” chairs are meant to be placed close to the fire place to stay warm, but could also be used for occasional seating. Measures: 22.5″ W x 22″ D x 31″ H.
