Pair of Mid-19th Century French Framed Handwoven Aubusson Wall Hanging Portieres
These antique wall hanging tapestries were handwoven in France, circa 1860. Called “Portiere”, each tapestry is set in the original carved wooden frame, and features floral and leaf motifs in the traditional pastel beige, red and green palette. The tall and narrow tapestries are in excellent condition with soft colors. Portiere tapestries are tall slim wall-hangings which hung on either side of elegant doors of French chateaux and palaces in past centuries, they are unique in that they are designed to fill narrow wall spaces. Very versatile, they could be hang on both sides of a window or door, in a hallway, or even on top of a landing or staircase! Measure: 20.5″W x 84″H.
