This beautiful antique fruitwood “Duchesse Brisee” (French for broken duchess), or Chaise Longue, was crafted in Provence, France circa 1880. The set comprises two armchairs (his and hers), and a matching ottoman in between for both to use. Each piece stands on cabriole legs decorated with floral motifs at the shoulder, over a scalloped apron. Both rounded and curved backs are decorated with hand carved floral and foliage motifs, and each comfortable seat are dressed with loose cushion. The multiple sections are upholstered with the original floral and foliate fabric and is further embellished with brass nail heads. The provincial chaise lounge is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with wonderful carvings, and adorns a rich walnut patina.
