19th C. French Silver-Plated Rococo Bookstand with Shell and Cherub Motifs
$1,300
About
Crafted in France circa 1880, this exquisite silver-plated bookstand exemplifies the ornate elegance of the late 19th century with strong Rococo Revival influence. The frame is adorned with richly detailed repoussé work, including a central scallop shell flanked by scrolling acanthus foliage and fluted volutes. Each leg is modeled as a winged cherub bust terminating in stylized scroll feet, lending both charm and classical gravitas. Designed to hold an open book, folio, or sheet music, the hinged frame tilts open at an adjustable angle and folds flat when not in use. The silvered surface has mellowed to a warm patina, enhancing the depth of the detailing and underscoring its antique character. Closed dimensions: 12.5 inches wide by 14.25 inches deep and 6.5 inches high. In excellent condition commensurate city age and use, this decorative and functional stand is ideal for a writing desk, music room, or display of treasured books or a Bible in a refined interior.
